The Link is a prime example of our triple-bottom-line approach to urban revitalisation.

Economic outcomes:

  • Consumers based in the project area are anticipated to contribute to nearly 80% of sales supporting retail and café activity in the area, positively impacting on local market sustainability.
  • Significant new employment opportunities will arise from infrastructure and building construction with ongoing employment opportunities emerging as new businesses move into the area.
  • New linkages will support improved movement and therefore access to businesses.
  • Attracting workers, residents, visitors and investment to the area will support a variety of new commercial, retail and entertainment enterprises.

Environmental outcomes:

  • Increased housing density close to the city will enable people to live close to employment, social and leisure facilities, reducing the use of cars for transport.
  • Undergrounding the rail line and bus depot will reduce noise pollution.
  • Improved public transport infrastructure will encourage increased usage, decreasing dependency on cars.
  • Unique landscapes, street furniture and public art will create interesting public areas that celebrate Western Australia.

Social outcomes:

  • Restored connectivity will invite people to experience the city together.
  • There will be a diversity of dwelling types and sizes, with 15% allocated to affordable housing.
  • New physical linkages will blend the commercial culture of the CBD with the multi-cultural style of Northbridge, creating opportunities for diverse experiences.
  • Safety in the area will be improved through well-designed street and public areas.
