Perth has a unique landscape and a solid urban centre, but the city is disconnected in places – spaces don’t flow together and the central rail line separates the CBD from the north. Increasing connections and providing ample public space in this area is therefore a key aspect of The Link’s design.

We recognise the important role that providing shared public space play in increasing movement and connectivity.  As a result, one third (4.25 ha) of the project area will be dedicated to shared public space. This will provide convenient respite areas, improve movement and create important pedestrian connections between the CBD, Forrest Place, Perth Cultural Centre and William Street.

Within The Link, streets, piazzas and urban promenades will take pedestrians on a journey through the area. The careful selection and location of street furniture, landscaping, bollards, lights, art and colour variation will allow for enjoyable, unimpeded movement throughout.

All public spaces within The Link are designed to be multi-functional environments – creating a variety of gathering areas for all to enjoy. All precincts within The Link possess these design characteristics. An example of this is Celebration Place, which will be a key activity point for Western Australians, incorporating alfresco dining, outdoor space, major entertainment venue, cultural events and exhibitions.
