The Perth Cultural Centre is the State’s prime resource for enjoying arts, culture and accessing knowledge and is the central place where all of these come together. It is one of the most strategically placed publicly-owned landholdings in any Australian city and includes some of the State’s most significant cultural and educational institutions. These are:
- Central TAFE
- Art Gallery of Western Australia
- State Library of Western Australia
- Western Australian Museum
- Blue Room Theatre
- Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA)
- the new $91 million State Theatre Centre, which is currently under construction
The 8.5 ha project is bordered by Aberdeen, William, Roe and Beaufort Streets and is one of the city’s key public spaces. It is significantly located between the CBD and Northbridge and is adjacent to other EPRA projects, The Link and New Northbridge.
In August 2004, the WA State Government approved an extension to EPRA’s boundary to include the Perth Cultural Centre project area, giving us planning responsibility to encourage an active, vibrant precinct.
