The Riverbank precinct is a recreational public space that includes beautiful scenery, parklands and access to the Swan River. It includes Mardalup Park, which is located at the end of Brown Street and was created in 1997 on the former East Perth Gas Works site. Extensive environmental remediation work was undertaken to make the site suitable for use as public open space.
This site also has significant cultural heritage significance – the area was used by many Noongar families as a camping ground. Mardalup Park contains multiple pathways and like Victoria Gardens, is a popular picnic spot, with barbeques, a children’s playground and free parking for visitors.
